Churches of Christ in Queensland has opened the doors of its Fassifern Aged Care Service development and welcomed residents to their new home with a celebratory BBQ lunch and cake.

For more than 40 years, we have focused on bringing uplift and wellbeing to residents in Boonah and the Scenic Rim region. Now we can continue to provide the high quality care the service has become known for, in a purpose-built, home-like environment where residents feel safe, respected and valued.

“The new 64-room building on Elliot Road, Boonah increases the availability of high quality residential aged care, including respite, dementia and palliative care, for local seniors,” Churches of Christ in Queensland Chief Executive Officer Gary Edwards said.

“It also enables us to evolve our care and facilities to better align with the changing needs and wants of local seniors. We can provide optimal, individualised care and an enhanced sense of community in a bright, modern and welcoming facility,” Gary said.

Integral to the new Fassifern Aged Care Service is our cottage model of care.

Each of the service’s four new cottages has 16 bright and spacious private rooms with ensuite bathrooms. All the cottages have a shared lounge, living room and dining space, enabling people to interact with fellow residents and create social connections or catch up with family and friends, along with quiet areas for relaxation and reading. There is also a gym, with specialist equipment for seniors, and a hair salon.

Outdoor features include a landscaped central courtyard, with cottage-style gardens, covered seating areas, artworks and raised vegetable planters.

“While equipped with the latest technologies to support clinical and personal care, the building’s cottage design provides a home-like setting that supports residents’ positive wellbeing,” Gary said.

“Residents can take part in everyday activities, including meal preparation and personal laundry. This empowers them to remain as independent as they choose.

“They also have access to stimulating outdoor environments for activities such as gardening or walking to help retain mobility and strength. The dedicated seniors gym, including physiotherapist support, and exercise classes encourage social connections and help prevent falls.”

Churches of Christ in Queensland operates a number of services through its Boonah Campus, delivering high quality care and support in the Scenic Rim region. As well as residential aged care, this includes retirement living units and community care services. Boonah Church of Christ is also active in the community, along with a Regional Engagement Partner who supports community and missional activities.

“The new development reflects our commitment to delivering well-considered services to meet the future care needs of the region’s growing ageing population,” Gary said.

“Our services give seniors the option to stay local, should they need care, as well as staying connected with loved ones and being able to participate in a greater range of activities.”
