The art of belonging
For Glenda, creativity has always been more than a hobby.
Through art, she has captured memories, expressed emotions and stayed connected to the people and places that have shaped her life. Her abstract mixed-media works, inspired by nature, music and personal experience, invite viewers to bring their own meaning and interpretation to each piece.
Some of her most meaningful artistic journeys began while living overseas for ten years.
Far from Australia, Glenda found herself missing the landscapes and surroundings she had always known. Painting became a way of reconnecting with home. Inspired by memories of the Australian bush and natural environment, she created works that reflected her appreciation for the country she loved.
"Painting made me feel connected to both culture and my sense of self while living abroad," Glenda says. "No matter where I was in the world, I was home while painting."
Today, that same creativity continues to enrich her life as part of a Churches of Christ housing community.
While every resident's story is unique, many share the importance of having a place where they feel safe, supported and connected. Having a home is about more than simply having a roof overhead. It provides the foundation people need to continue pursuing their interests, maintaining relationships and doing the things that bring meaning and purpose to everyday life.
For Glenda, that means having the space and freedom to keep creating.
Her story reminds us that housing is about much more than bricks and mortar. It is about creating communities where people can flourish, maintain their independence and continue contributing their unique gifts and talents.
One of Glenda's artworks was recently featured on a donor thank you card following the Hope Needs a Home campaign. It is a fitting reflection of what safe and secure housing can help make possible. Not only a place to live, but the opportunity for people to continue sharing their creativity, experiences and passions with others.

Glenda's story is also a reminder that creativity does not diminish with age. The experiences she has gathered throughout her life continue to find expression through her art, inspiring reflection, conversation and connection with those around her.
Through every season of life, creativity can remain a source of joy, identity and purpose. For Glenda, painting continues to provide all three.
At Churches of Christ, we believe everyone deserves a place where they can feel secure, connected and valued. Through our housing and community services, we seek to create environments where people can build meaningful relationships, pursue their passions and continue living life with purpose.
Whether that purpose is expressed through art, gardening, volunteering, friendship or simply being part of a welcoming community, a sense of belonging helps people thrive.
Glenda's story reminds us that when people have the stability and support to be themselves, creativity, connection and purpose can continue to grow. And when communities are built on care, dignity and belonging, everyone benefits.
