Boonah Integrated Community - Stage 1

We are investing in the future of our existing Fassifern Aged Care Service and Retirement Village to secure Boonah and the Scenic Rim as a location of choice for seniors care.

The new 64-bed residential aged care service will eventually replace the existing Fassifern nursing home. The current 40 bed nursing home has a number of limitations restricting its ability to accommodate growing needs. The four existing residential aged care cottages with 41 beds will remain, giving a total of 105 beds once construction is completed.

A lake will be included, partly to manage stormwater issues to allow the residential aged care facility to be built. An existing dam will be filled to enable the development.

Stage 1 plans for a ‘Minor Change’ to the existing Development Application have been submitted to the Scenic Rim Regional Council for approval in late September. This does not require public notification and the outcome will be a Council decision.

We do not expect all of our approvals to be obtained and processes finalised before the end of 2018.

Cottage model of care

The new residential aged care service will follow our unique Cottage Model of Care with a home-like environment and four x16 bed, dementia-friendly cottages in two single storey buildings.

Under this model residents have their own bedroom and ensuite, share living and outdoor facilities and enjoy dedicated care team support.

This model supports the Positive Well-being framework in which care is person-centred delivering benefits for each resident’s sense of comfort and security, identity, meaningful occupation, sense of inclusion and retention of attachments to family and friends.

Our integrated community model

Our integrated community model (referred to as a Campus) brings together the care, church community and support services to work collaboratively for the uplift of on-campus residents and the broader community.

Churches of Christ in Queensland and Churches of Christ Care operate a number of services through the region which are delivering high quality support for residents and the local community.

For the local community, our aged care services located at Boonah and Kalbar, retirement living units and Home and Community Care Service provide support. We aim to accommodate all those needing care or support as soon as possible following initial enquiry.

Boonah Church of Christ is also active in our community along with our Mission Action Partner who supports community and missional activities. Altogether we work collaboratively for the uplift of residents and the community.

Future Planning

When the new service is open, the existing residential aged care service will be closed and residents relocated to the new accommodation or to an alternative accommodation of their choice.

We will also continue to assess the demand for further development in the region.
