Recipient of first Stockwell Webber Foundation and Churches of Christ (QLD) scholarship graduates with full qualifications
Graduating as a Registered Nurse in November, Julie May looks towards giving back to her local community as the first recipient of the Stockwell Webber Foundation and Churches of Christ in Queensland scholarship.
Commencing her role at Churches of Christ Care’s Blackall Residential Aged Care service as an Enrolled Nurse in 2009, Julie saw a need for Registered Nurses in her community.
Julie is hoping to be able to use her new qualifications to support residents and other staff at the service. Julie said that she “loves the service and would like to thank everyone for the help given to see her achieve her Registered Nurse qualification.”
Supported by local philanthropist Owen Stockwell, the scholarship offers educational funding to those caring for aged and community services in rural or remote communities.
The scholarship first announced in 2016, offers recipients up to $5000 support for people from North, Central West and South West Queensland wishing to undertake studies in nursing, management, or another field directly related to the provision of aged and community services.
Stockwell Webber Foundation Director and Blackall local Owen Stockwell said he was pleased to be able to support staff in pursuit of their goals.
“To be able to encourage some of these caring staff to become caring professionals in our rural areas strengthens the delivery of care and helps strengthen the resilience of local communities,” Mr Stockwell said. Posted January 29, 2019 in
