How do I get started?  It's easy - call our family day care unit co-ordinator on 1800 556 495 or email fdcadmin@cofcqld.com.au.  They will assist you to locate the FDC coordination unit closest to you, and answer any questions you may have.  Your coordination unit will discuss your interest, suitability and availability in becoming an educator.  They will help you through the recruitment processes and guide you along the way.

We want you to be successful in managing your own business.  We will support, monitor, train and offer guidance, to ensure that the children in your care receive high quality education in a nurturing home environment.

Your coordination unit will work with you to meet legislation requirements, national standards and the Early Years Learning Framework (EYLF).

The application process

Below you will find other useful information to assist you in making the decision about becoming an educator.

1. Complete the online enquiry form

If you have not already enquired with your local family day care coordination unit complete the enquiry form.

2. Informal information visit or conversation

Following lodgement of your online enquiry form, a family day care coordinator will be in touch to answer your initial questions, arrange an interview and provide an information pack that contains:

Educator application form
Educator role statement
Providing family day care information sheet
Other people living at the home questionnaire
Home assessment form

3. Application and interview

Complete your application form and either bring to your interview or email to fdcadmin@cofcqld.com.au.   

4. Talk with your family

Following the interview it is important to talk with your family and consider whether being an at-home educator will suit your family’s circumstances.

5. Blue card applications

Apply for a blue card for all adults who live in the home or visit regularly. If blue cards are held then an authorisation to confirm valid blue card must be completed.

6. Referee checks

We will contact your personal referees (not family or friends).

7. Home assessment

A coordinator will visit your home to complete an inspection and meet your family/occupants.

8. Training

You will be invited to complete training, this takes between eight (8) to ten (10) weeks.

9. Other checks

By this stage of your application we will likely have fulfilled all checks and inspections however if we have not already we will complete a home assessment which  includes a pool and electrical safety check.
