Palliative care bed keeps loved ones close

Churches of Christ Care, in conjunction with Bribie Moreton Hospice Health Services, has opened an all ages palliative care bed at its aged care service so locals no longer need to travel great distances to care for their loved ones at the end of life.

Bribie Moreton Hospice Health Services are sponsoring the purpose designed bed as part of their aim to assist individuals with chronic or other life limiting conditions and their carers by offering high quality care which focuses on the whole person within a community setting.

Churches of Christ Care Manager Shirley Watson said the Hospice Suite will support locals and their families through difficult times and the organisation is thankful for the Hospice funding the costs of fit out of this room and ongoing care of clients and their carers.

"We had the infrastructure to support another palliative care bed within our service, and are delighted to work with the Hospice," Ms Watson said.

"As an organisation we pride ourselves on acting upon community needs as they arise and this is one such example of how we bring the light of Christ into Bribie Island."

"Clients at the end of life will receive the highest quality care 24 hours a day in a safe and welcoming environment with their loved ones close by."

Ms Watson said the launch of the room last week was particularly timely, with Palliative Care week being acknowledged across the country.

"It is important we talk about the need for palliative care and the impact caring for a loved one during this time has on a family," she said.

"People of all ages, sadly, can require palliative care, not just older people.

"Churches of Christ Care is committed to ensuring dignity for all people, particularly during end of life care.
