It’s on for young and old during Seniors Week

A leading not-for-profit provider of seniors care is celebrating Seniors Week across its many Queensland locations.

Churches of Christ Care is bringing the Seniors Week theme of ‘it’s on for young and old’ to life with plenty of action on offer across Queensland between 15 and 23 August.

Celebrations include a high tea and hot rod car show on the Fraser Coast, BBQ with the mayor in Townsville, visits and morning tea at Parliament House and even a bridal fashion parade on the Gold Coast.

Director of Seniors and Supported Living Bryan Mason said that while the organisation helps seniors to live abundant lives every day, Seniors Week is an ideal time to celebrate the contribution seniors make to our communities.

“Our seniors, whether they are clients, staff or volunteers, all help create the communities in which we operate,” Mr Mason said.

“Without seniors we wouldn’t have the rich tapestry of human life, stories and experiences that make our communities the vibrant places they are today.”

Churches of Christ Care provides for the care needs of tens of thousands of seniors each year across Queensland and Victoria. This includes 18 retirement villages, 28 residential aged care services, home and community care services, in addition to providing for seniors’ pastoral care needs.

They also care for thousands of young Queenslanders, providing child care and child protection services.

Churches of Christ Care is also a large employer of seniors with 446 staff aged 60 years and over, making up 13.9% of its 3,200 employees. Seniors also fulfil vital volunteering roles with the charity organisation, in fact 62% of the organisation’s volunteers are considered to be seniors.

“Our oldest employee is 80 years young and works as an administration officer in residential aged care.” Mr Mason said.

“Of over 1,100 volunteers, we have 707 volunteers aged 60 and over, while our most ‘senior’ volunteer is 99 years old!”

Churches of Christ Care has provided care for Queensland seniors for 85 years and is proud to celebrate Seniors Week which runs from 15 to 23 August 2015.
