Women ready to Shine

Every woman has the ability to shine, to understand her own personal worth, strength and purpose and to realise the potential within her to fulfil her desires.

This is the aim of the Shine Women program currently being delivered across Churches of Christ in Queensland.

A group of Churches of Christ Housing Services residents recently took part in the nine-week program, held at our Ipswich office.

Mission Action Partner Donna Savill helped facilitate the program with Lynne Feldon, Community Chaplain, Volunteer Joanna Butler, and Modupe Akib, Learning and Development Facilitator. Donna loves taking part in the program and seeing the difference it makes in people’s lives.

“It is so amazing to see people recognise their worth, develop resilience and discover a purpose for their life that they might not have realised before, or never thought it would be possible to achieve,” Donna said.

“The first part of Shine encourages participants to understand that your worth is intrinsic and isn’t changed by what happens to you or what other people say about you, or even what you say about yourself. This is life changing!”

Throughout the nine-week program, Donna witnessed some inspiring things.

“One lady had never known what it was to feel happiness. But through Shine, and through the relationship with her Community Chaplain Lynne, she is seeing the world through different eyes, understanding emotion, and dreaming about stepping out and accomplishing goals which she never thought she would,” she said.
