CEO update, December 2016

Celebrate 2016

Last year I was told that every year, our Celebrate events just get better and better. While we tried a different format this year, I am delighted that it was one of the best events yet.

On Thursday 10 November, I was excited to join over 300 individuals at our Centrifuge and Annual General Meeting Dinner events as part of Celebrate 2016, with a further 100 coming to one or more sessions.

Taking to the stage to address attendees as part of my speech for the Annual General Meeting, the room was abuzz with inspiration, comradery and a shared faith in what God is doing, following an invigorating and thought provoking Centrifuge event.

There was a real sense of excitement during Centrifuge, with the room at Hillstone St Lucia overflowing with positivity and an eagerness to engage.

The format included two sessions where attendees could attend one of a variety of different workshop presentations.

I was also proud to present the CEO Excellence in Service Awards at Celebrate, as well as travelling around and visiting you in our churches and services to acknowledge the great work and commitment of so many individuals. It is inspiring to see so many of you, every day, living our values and being an inspiration to your colleagues, clients and communities. I have been very much moved as I have had the privilege of connecting and listening to so many stories of uplift and transformation. 100th Anniversary at Boondall

I was honoured to preach at Boondall Church of Christ’s 100th Anniversary recently. It was a marvellous service with the chapel overflowing and lunch in a packed hall. There were greetings from many churches as well as the Lord Mayor and other dignitaries.

40 Days of Prayer – 1 March to 9 April

In recent years, we have marked March as the Month of Prayer, coinciding with the World Day of Prayer on the first Friday in March and the lead up to Easter.

In 2017, the Conference Council is calling on us all to engage in 40-prayerful days from 1 March to 9 April.

Prayer was a priority for Jesus. His life and ministry were built on it. If Jesus needed to pray, then how much do we?

Looking forward

The growth of our organisation physically and financially continued strongly in 2016, alongside the growth of our reputation and goodwill in the industries we work. The respect of government and other organisations for us, and our position as a leader in our fields, continues to grow.

In 2017, this growth is on track to continue. On 16 November we welcomed a new retirement village to our growing movement. Sugarland Gardens Retirement Village in Bundaberg – across the road from our Twyford St Church of Christ - extends our commitment to seniors in the Wide Bay Burnett region.

In the coming months, I look forward to opening the new 40-unit community housing development at Acacia Ridge, as well as overseeing the development of our four integrated seniors campuses and faith communities in Warwick, Stanthorpe, Meridan and Boonah.

Blessings for 2017

As we come to the end of 2016, I want to thank everyone who is a part of our Churches of Christ movement and for your contribution to our shared mission of bringing the light of Christ into communities. It has been another big year and we have collectively made a difference in so many ways.

I pray God’s blessing on every reader that Christmas may be a time of love and peace, and 2017 will be a new year full of possibilities.

Blessings

Dean Phelan
