Churches of Christ in Queensland celebrates Seniors Week 2019

From chamber concerts to morning tea with the Mayor, and theatre performances to an indoor market, there is something for everyone during Churches of Christ in Queensland’s celebration of Seniors Week from 17-25 August.

Reflecting the spirit of its theme ‘Celebrating a Queensland for all ages’, Seniors Week is an opportunity for people to connect, share and learn new experiences, discover services and support, and assist in reducing social isolation.

Churches of Christ in Queensland is recognising the contribution our seniors make – whether as residents or clients, volunteers or in our workforce, community leaders or carers – with activities across many of its services.

The highly-anticipated events include live performances from leading Australian chamber ensemble Southern Cross Soloists, hosted by our Warwick, Little Mountain and Kenmore campuses. The crowd-pleasing musicians will perform a program of much-loved classics and virtuosic masterpieces for the whole community to enjoy.

Our Fair Haven Aged Care Service in Maryborough will recreate the tastes and sounds of a 50s diner, with entertainment from special guest ‘Elvis’. The service will also be welcoming the Harvey Bay Rodders, with their classic cars from that era.

Seniors Week celebrations would not be complete without a morning tea. Many of our aged care services are hosting celebratory teas for residents and their families, including Bundaberg and Arcadia.

Our residents at other services, such as Palms Aged Care Service in Ingham and Fair Haven, are looking forward to a warm welcome at morning teas organised by local mayors, QCWA and churches.

Looking for the perfect gift for a special senior in your life? Visit the annual Mitchelton Markets, which take place during Seniors Week at Moonah Park's Community Centre. Held annually since 2013, the indoor markets will feature a variety hand-made and second-hand items, and a selection of food stalls.

“Churches of Christ in Queensland looks forward to connecting people of all ages through this week of celebratory events and activities,” said Bryan Mason, Executive Director Services.

“As one of Australia’s largest, most diverse not-for-profit organisations, we help thousands of seniors maintain independence and get the most out of life – every week of the year.”
