Navigating the aged care maze

Churches of Christ Care local not-for-profit seniors service provider hosted a free information seminar titled Aged Care: Where to start, at the Caloundra Community Centre, 58 Queen Street, Caloundra on Tuesday 24 July 2018 from 5.30 to 7.30pm.

The event will feature a range of independent industry experts covering everything you need to know about navigating the aged care maze, including the difference between residential aged care, retirement living and in-home care; key factors to consider when determining the right option for your personal situation; the process for accessing care; and what My Aged Care, ACAT and Income and Assets assessments really entail.

Churches of Christ Care Executive Director of Services Bryan Mason said the event was conceived following feedback from families that they are increasingly overwhelmed and unsure about where to start when their loved one requires additional support.

“Considering the best options for the next phase of life can often be overwhelming, particularly if you need to move fast,” Mr Mason said.

“We regularly hear of the difficulties people face as they look to access in-home care or seniors accommodation, and the confusion around what they need to do to be ready.

“It can take months to get a government assessment and sometimes just as long to be assigned a package or place, so why not get the ball rolling now and be prepared.

Other speakers at the free information seminar will address the importance of financial planning, estate planning and advanced care planning, as well as tips and tricks for healthy ageing and wellbeing.

All guests received a free gift bag, finger food and light refreshments.
