Networking Magazine June/July 2015

The June/July edition of Networking is full of stories from across our churches, mission and care services.

In his Chief Executive Officer’s update, Dean Phelan gives a progress report on the construction of the new Kenmore head office, which is starting to rise from the hard rock below. Dean also presents the first article in a new series looking at who we are as Churches of Christ, this time exploring our historical foundations in the United States in the 1800s.

Over 7-8 May, members of our movement learnt more about who we are when they came together for two days at the Centrifuge Conference. They discussed the concept of ‘Jesus made me do it’ and learnt more about who He is and what He did.

During National Volunteers Week (11-17 May), celebrations were held across the organisation to celebrate our 1,000 plus volunteers who make such a huge contribution to the work we do. We have a round-up of some of the small gatherings and large morning teas held across our services, with special mention of the volunteers who have given 15, 20 and 25 years to helping us bring the light of Christ into communities.

In our last edition we gave you the first instalment of Ally Jensen’s ‘year of being’. Just three days into her adventure she experienced Nepal’s most devastating earthquake to strike the area in 80 years, which killed over 8,500 people.  Ally gives an update on her terrifying experience and what she is doing to help the devastated Nepalese community.

There are also stories about positive wellbeing in aged care, a new program giving vulnerable children a chance to achieve their dreams, and how humour therapy is transforming lives.

Also, nominations are now open for the Excellence in Service Awards, which will be presented at the Awards Dinner as part of our annual Celebrate weekend from 20-21 November.

The Our Sacred Restlessness – Women’s Conference will be held on 25 July 2015 at Southport Church of Christ.

I hope you enjoy this edition of Networking as much as we are encouraged by the wonderful stories we hear during production of the publication. Please send your articles, story ideas, photos and events to communications@cofcqld.com.au.
