Where to start

Most people want to remain living in their own home for as long as possible. However, there may come a time where it becomes too hard to manage on your own. This is often due to illness, accident or emergency, bereavement, disability or changes with carers.

At this time it is best to arrange an assessment undertaken by ACAT (The Aged Care Assessment Team). The assessor will talk with you about your situation, what options are available and whether you are eligible to receive funding. You may be able to access home or community care services, to help you remain living independently or you may want to consider moving into residential aged care.

Types of care

We provide accommodation with 24-hour nursing care, personal care, medication management, dementia support, emotional support and flexible options in respite care.

Some of our residential aged care services offer secure, dementia specific care, helping families know their loved one is safe, comfortable and receiving the additional care they need.

Positive wellbeing model of care

Our positive wellbeing model of care is designed to enhance quality of life for older people and promote health and wellbeing. All residents, including those living with dementia, are viewed as individuals with the right to enjoy the best possible quality of life. You are encouraged and supported to make decisions and express choice. It is important that your personal preferences are understood so that we know what makes you feel comfortable, included, occupied and attached to the group in which you live. 

We need to consider what makes each person feel good about themselves and what support do they require to help them maintain and express their own individual identity and personality.

The Positive Wellbeing Model is built on four key elements which are:

  • Person-centred care
  • Evidence-based practice
  • Collaborative care partnerships
  • Supportive living environments

These are essential to achieving quality of life and the desired outcome of positive wellbeing. Positive wellbeing is said to occur when positive feelings predominate. It may be displayed through the appearance of contentment, comfort, smiles and laughter, positive behaviours, social connections and engaging in activities at optimal functional capacity.

 

Frequently asked questions

When should I enter aged care?

Deciding if and when to enter aged care can be a difficult and emotional time for your and your family. Working out what is the best option can create anxiety and uncertainty, and many people are worried about losing their independence.

The main reason for entering into care is because it has become too hard to manage at home on your own. This may be due to illness, accident or emergency, bereavement, disability or changes with carers.

Residential aged care can provide help with day to day tasks and personal care through to full 24 hour nursing care, depending on individual needs.

Aged care assessment

How much does it cost?

Recent Australian Government reforms to the aged care system mean that your income and assets will be taken into account in establishing your fees and payments. You may be asked to pay one or more of the following fees in residential aged care:

Basic daily fees

These daily fees cover living costs such as meals, power and laundry.

Means tested fees

Some people may be required to pay an additional contribution, depending on your personal financial situation.

Accommodation payments

The cost of living in aged care will be fully or partially met by the Australian Government.

Fees for optional or additional services

Fees and charges will vary from service to service and are often based upon the room type you chose. Do I have to sell my home?

You do not need to sell your home to enter residential aged care. However, many people choose to sell their home to help meet the costs of care and to reduce the costs involved in maintaining a home you no longer live in.  It is important to note that your home will be considered in the means tested fees.

Cost calculator

You can choose to pay for your accommodation by way of a lump sum payment on entry, a periodic ‘rental-style’ payment or a combination of both. Using the tool below, simply enter the price of the room and the lump sum payment you wish to pay in entry and you will see the additional daily payment you will pay.

The Australian Government legislation states that a resident must be left with a minimum of $47,500 in assets after paying a refundable accommodation deposit (RAD). Therefore the value of your assets will be required to work out your RAD.

Note: Some people will have their accommodation costs met in full or part by the Australian Government. The Department of Human Services (Centrelink) will advise you if this applies to you based on an assessment of your income and assets – Contact the Centrelink Financial Information Service on 132 300. You can also contact the government’s My Aged Care team on 1800 200 422 to help you estimate the fees and charges you may have to pay towards your residential aged care. Before you call you should have your financial information ready, especially details of your various forms of income and assets.
