End of an era for childcare centres

This Friday marks the end of an era for a leading not-for-profit provider of early learning and care.

Five regional Queensland childcare centres currently operated by Churches of Christ Care will become NCC Early Learners centres from Monday next week.

Children, Youth and Families General Manager Jane Carter said it will be with mixed emotions they farewell the centres, many of which her team has operated for a number of decades.

“This Friday will be a day of both sadness and celebration for many as we farewell dozens of staff and hundreds of families, some of whom have been with us for many years, and in some cases for generations,” Ms Carter said.

“There have been many changes in care over the years in these centres and for us as an organisation, but by far our biggest change is strengthening our focus on early intervention services and supporting vulnerable families.”

This change led to Churches of Christ Care announcing last year its intention to exit five long day care and kindergarten centres. Discussions with Nambour Christian College commenced soon after due to its alignment of values and standards.

The two specialists in early learning and care came to an agreement that will see the predominately regional childcare centres continue operations as NCC Early Learners centres.

“It was a difficult decision to exit these centres and we are pleased they will be operated by a provider with a solid reputation and the ability to provide a high standard of care to children and families in local communities.”

The services operating as NCC Early Learners from 10 April 2017 are located in Chinchilla, Kallangur, North Buderim, St George and Withcott.

Ms Carter said the agreement between the two Queensland not-for-profits is the best possible outcome for all those involved.

“This is a great result for children, families, staff and local communities,” Ms Carter said.

“While we are strengthening our focus on early intervention services, it is great to see the legacy of quality early learning and care continue, particularly in regional communities.”

As part of its early intervention focus Churches of Christ Care continues to expand with new services opening throughout Queensland. It is also enhancing the provision of care at its Cunnamulla early learning and care services, and at its family day care services across the state.
