Childcare centres to continue operating

Two specialists in early learning and care have come to an agreement that will see a number of regional childcare centres continue operations.

After announcing its intention to exit five long day care and kindergarten centres, not-for-profit provider Churches of Christ Care entered into discussions with a number of potential service providers with alignment of values and standards.

Churches of Christ Care Children, Youth and Families General Manager Jane Carter said while a number of organisations expressed interest, one provider stood out in terms of service delivery and ethos.

“We are pleased to announce that an agreement in principle has been reached with Nambour Christian College, which will see the college operate the five centres from March 2017,” Ms Carter said.

The services, to operate as NCC Early Learners from 6 March 2017, are located in Chinchilla, Kallangur, North Buderim, St George and Withcott.

Ms Carter said the agreement is the best possible outcome for all those involved.

“This is a great result for children, families, staff and local communities,” Ms Carter said.

“While Churches of Christ Care is strengthening our focus on early intervention services and supporting vulnerable families, it is great to see the legacy of quality early learning and care continue, particularly in regional communities.”

“A real plus side is that the Christian values of NCC Early Learners align with those of Churches of Christ Care.”

Head of Nambour Christian College Bruce Campbell said the agreement in principle for them to operate the five centres is a perfect fit for the diverse provider of education.

“We commenced childcare operations through NCC Early Learners on the Sunshine Coast in 2007 and have steadily grown each year,” Mr Campbell said.

“The centres, many with decades of community involvement, perfectly suits our strategy of sustainable long-term regional growth.”

In the meantime, business continues as usual at these centres, which will reopen on 9 January 2017 after standard end of year holiday closures. Churches of Christ Care will work with NCC Early Learners to transition the centres, with no impact expected on children’s enrolments.
