Yet again we are faced with devastation from Tropical Cyclone Debbie and the resulting weather event that continues to spread throughout Queensland and in northern New South Wales.
We have all seen the widespread devastation and loss experienced by communities stretching from Bowen in the north, through Central Queensland, the Wide Bay and Burnett region, South East Queensland and into Northern New South Wales.
In response, Churches of Christ in Queensland has launched the 2017 Cyclone and Flood Emergency Appeal, and we are calling on people to do what they can to assist families and individuals affected by this disaster.
Our Community Chaplains and Mission Action Partners are based in communities that have been devastated by these events and are ready to provide much needed support and care during this difficult time. While much of the media coverage will move on, families and communities are faced with a long clean up and many will need to rebuild homes and businesses from scratch. Many will also struggle to process the emotional trauma of the events and losses, long after the physical clean-up is completed. Our Chaplains and Mission Action Partners are there to listen, to walk alongside people and will remain present in these communities providing support in the long term.
Funds raised from this appeal will go directly to our Chaplains and Mission Action Partners on the ground so that they can provide immediate and ongoing support to families and individuals who have been impacted by these events.
We ask that those of us fortunate enough not to have been directly affected please give what you can.
