Why choose family day care?

Choosing the right child care and early learning service for your little one can sometimes feel daunting. There are so many options available that it can be confusing knowing where to start.

The two main services are centre-based care, delivered at a child care centre and home-based care, through either family day care or a service provided in your own home.

Family day care is provided in the homes of approved early childhood educators. The educators have a minimum of a Certificate III in Early Childhood and use the Early Years Learning Framework and My Time Our Place Framework.  Additionally, all Churches of Christ Care family day care educators are supported by one of our dedicated coordinators, who conduct monthly home visits to ensure the highest standard of care and early learning is being achieved.

There are a number of benefits to family day care that centre-based care often does not provide:

    • The ability for your children to stay together. At a child care centre, siblings will often be placed in different rooms based on their age. In family day care, your children will remain together, just like at home.
    • Small, multi-aged groups can be beneficial for some children. Not all young children enjoy being in a larger group. Educators can look after up to four children under school age and three school-aged children. This provides a close supportive environment where children can interact with others at varying developmental stages – just like in a home environment.
    • Children also have the opportunity to access larger group activities through regular networking or attendance at playgroup sessions, where a specialised program is developed and implemented based on children’s development and interests.
    • The learning is tailored to meet each child’s individual needs and developmental levels. Because of the small group, the educator gets to know your child very well and can ensure early learning incorporates their strengths as well as helping them grow and develop. All early learning programs are developed with the National quality frameworks as a base.
    • Child care can be more flexible. This can be especially helpful for students and shift workers, who may not be able to access traditional centre-based care due to their rosters. Additionally, you only pay for the hours booked and are still eligible for government fee relief, where relevant or applicable.
    • Because of the small group, it is often easier for family day care educators to organise excursions, increasing your child’s experiences and interaction with the broader world.
    • Before and after school care and vacation care services are also available.

Just like centre-based care, family day care offers your child all the benefits of formalised child care and helps ready them for school.

Churches of Christ Care offers family day care in the western suburbs of Brisbane, Chinchilla, St George, and throughout the Wide Bay region (including Hervey Bay, Maryborough, Bundaberg and Gin Gin).
