Churches of Christ in Queensland Board visits Warwick Campus

The Churches of Christ in Queensland Board held their meeting at Warwick Campus on Friday 24 August. Board members had an opportunity to take their first tour of the new Warwick Campus before it officially opens.

The integrated community campus in Warwick includes the existing Regency Park Retirement Village and is uniquely planned based on the needs of the individual and local community.

Integrated community

It comprises a Community Hub, Warwick Aged Care Service, Warwick Home and Community Care and Warwick Church of Christ.

Residential aged care service promotes independence

The new residential aged care service features 128 beds within the cottage model of care, with each 16-room ‘cottage’ set up as a warm, home-like environment that promotes independence.

Executive Director Services Bryan Mason explained more about the cottage model:

“Residents are encouraged to take part in everyday activities, including meal preparation and personal laundry. This empowers residents to be independent and complete activities they would have done at home.”

“Within each cottage, residents have a private bedroom and ensuite bathroom. The central living, lounge and dining space feature plenty of natural light and are furnished to enable residents and family members to select breakfast options and prepare tea and coffee. Each cottage will also have a number of smaller, quiet areas for relaxation or reading.”

“Residents have access to stimulating outdoor environments for enjoyable activities such as gardening or walking to help retain mobility and strength. Residents across our aged care services have experienced good outcomes through as much supported activity as they are comfortable with. They have access to a gym, including physio support, and exercise classes. This also encourages social
connections and helps prevent falls, improving positive well-being,” he said.

Alongside the aged care service, Warwick Campus has a community centre, hair salon and café, which will all open to residents and the local community.
